I am continually growing in my artwork. I feel that as I create paintings and prints I am gaining a new understanding to life and the way I see it. In my artwork I deal with abstractions of my mind and hope to allow certain memories and feelings to resurface from the long hidden past.
I deal with many emotions in my artwork, happy and sad but the most important emotion would be nostalgia. I am fascinated with the idea that seeing one small thing, or smelling a certain smell or hearing a piece of music can trigger so many feelings and take you back to a place you remember so clearly. But then it only lasts a moment and you try to recall it again and you cannot decipher between what you psychologically created and what was real in the past for that moment.
I work in oil painting and printmaking and I am not concerned with color, I do however pay close attention to what the color is doing, and how it may cause the viewer to react. I feel that certain people expect a landscape painting to look a certain way. They almost look for certain elements that let them know there is a tree and there is a blue sky. I find that this sort of way at looking at art is dogmatic and I try to break this tradition through my painting.
